Terms of Endearment? What's in a Politically Correct Word?
73
There are many terms thrown around our political landscape in the United States that many people have just accepted. I will attempt to define some of these terms as I see them. In defining terms we must remember that words are ever evolving and what once meant one thing can eventually mean something else. This is called the stipulated meaning. Let’s look at a few of these.
- Politically Correct: this is the big one because all the others fall under it. What do these two words mean when joined? They mean the acceptable way of stating what could be seen as an undesirable thing by covering up the true meaning and thus minimizing the offensiveness.
- Abortion: the killing of an innocent, defenseless human being.
- Pro Choice: one who condones the killing of an innocent, defenseless human being because it is inconvenient for the mother.
- Pro Life: one who defends the right to life of the innocent, defenseless human being even if it does inconvenience the life of the mother.
- Judicial Activist: a judge who could care less what the Constitution of the United States says or what the people want and makes new laws base on his opinion or international law. A judges job is to interpret law not make it.
- His/Her: this is how we grammatically don’t offend women.
- ----- Challenged: when you find a word in front of this word you know that the person is really skirting the issue. A vertically challenged person is really just short. A mentally challenged person is dumb and so forth.
- Progressive: one who believes in bigger government and higher taxes along with segregation of the races by use of the term multi-culturalism, morality is relative. Left-wing.
- Multi-culturalism: the acceptance of all cultures and cultural practices as morally equal. This is in contrast with assimilation or social integration.
- Assimilation or Social Integration: out of many one.
- Conservative: one who believes in smaller government and lower taxes along with more individual liberty to make moral choice accepting that all moral choices are not equal and have consequences. Right-wing
- Independent: one who is not sure what they think politically and are open to being convinced.
- Libertarian: one who is for very small government, lower taxes and allowing for moral choice without personal consequences no matter what happens to society as a whole. Extreme Right-wing
- Socialist: one who wants the government to be involved in insuring that all people live at the same level of comfort regardless of their efforts, higher taxes and distribution of wealth. Most socialist hide behind the term Progressive. Extreme Left-wing
- Main Stream Media: information originating from a left-wing point-of-view. The larger media outlets such as most major TV networks.
- Right-Wing Media: talk radio and Fox News. Notice there is no Left-Wing Media this is due to the fact that they hide behind the term Main Stream Media.
These are just some of the political terms we use when discussing politics in America. This is by no means exhaustive and I am sure that many of you will disagree with my definitions, just consider me definitionally challenged.

Terrific hub, You spelled out the choices perfectly. I am very curious how the voting goes.
terrific hub great reading its great thanks
great definitions, I see the conservatives are winning, yet the government seems to win all with an extreme leftist view,.....how did this happen????
The liberals are twisting the meanings around to get the most gain.
Keep on hubbing!
Fantastic! Well said. I couldn't agree more with your definitions. Thank you.
Your definitions are great and “political correctness” is the nonsensical nightmare of euphemistic expression that is supposed to make the truth less “hurtful”.
“Truth” and “Politics” just DO NOT belong in the same sentence that’s how far they are from each other.
With half an hour to spare, I chose to read some of your articles I've missed. I like this one. Great title, too.
Hmm I have to admit that I kinda changed political columns in my head in reading your article. For better or worse I seem to be a Libertarian. Hmmm and yet I don't sound like a wacko in a main stream sense... or at least I ... crap well just another self delusion up in smoke.

I'd say that about sums it all up.
Good hub!
I didn't check any of the poll options 'cause I...think...I'm ultra-conservative on certain things. And there goes another one of those terms! lol So actually, I'll just say I believe in staunchly sticking to the basics we USED to have before ultra-liberal-hogwash hit the political fan and got blown all around America.
